Joyce W. Bray

Joyce was born in Trenton, New Jersey the oldest of 11 children. Joyce attended Central State University and received a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education. She graduated the most outstanding female in the class of 1960. She later received a Masters of Education at Georgia State University as a Reading Specialist.

Joyce is a retired teacher of 35 years and has taught in five different states. She enjoyed teaching children and adults to read and has taught at Central State University with future teachers and Chattahoochee Technical School in Marietta in the Adult Education Department. Joyce is a recipient of the NAACP Cobb County Teacher of the Year Award, the Marietta City Schools Outstanding Teacher Award.

Joyce retired as the founding City Director of Here’s Life Inner City Atlanta the compassionate ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ, International, now know as Cru, International. She served the poor through inner city churches by training, resourcing and equipping them as they ministered to the poor in metropolitan Atlanta.

Joyce is the single mother of two children and the very proud grandmother, of four grandchildren and a slew of surrogate grandchildren. They are the delight of her life.

Joyce has served in her church as Beginners Church Director. She participates in the Women’s Ministry. She currently directs an outreach ministry at her church called Fresh Water Good News (FWGN). FWGN trains, resources and equips the women of Berean to serves women in the Atlanta metropolitan area who are homeless because of their addictions. Gilgal, Inc. serves women who are homeless because of their addictions. She is a former board member of this organization.

Joyce is a member of the Ladies Planning Committee of Cedine Ministries in Tennessee and has been a main speaker and a workshop leader over the past 20 years. She has also served as a camp counselor, office organizer and cook. She is a frequent guest speaker in churches and ladies groups both locally and nationally. She is a former president of Spirited Silver Speakers Toast Masters Club in Atlanta.

Her heart and focus continues to be able to disciple women by speaking at conferences and presenting workshops. She has written an unpublished book called Help IS ON THE WAY: READ! A Guide To Help Parents Teach Children to Read. Joyce is passionate about helping parents teach their children to read. She is dedicated to stomping out illiteracy.

SEARCHING her new book tells the story of how she searched for and found the child she gave up for adoption in 1956. Joyce is praying that this book will encourage the hearts of children of adoption, parents who have adopted children and parents who have given up their children for adoption.

Joyce loves to read, walk, and work in her yard. Her favorite scripture is Jeremiah 29:11-13 and her favorite book of the bible is the book of Ruth. Most of all she’s passionate and committed to her Savior and Lord Jesus Christ and telling others about Him.
